Venturion Survey Reveals Top Five Issues Facing HR Pros in 2005

Survey Shows Drop in Outplacement Concerns and Rise in Retention, Succession Planning Needs

SAN ANTONIO—October 6, 2005—Venturion, an OI Partner firm, the human resources consulting firm that provides a better human experience for a better business outcome, today reveals the results of a survey conducted of HR professionals attending the Annual Society for Human Resource Management Conference and Exposition on June 19 – 21, 2005, in San Diego. The survey asked HR professionals to identify the greatest issues they are facing over the next 12 months. Overwhelmingly, HR pros named retention and leadership development/succession planning, indicating that many companies are struggling with losing top leaders and not being able to replace them.

“Venturion, with partner offices worldwide, keeps a close watch on trends in the HR industry,” said Venturion President, Don Huse. “The survey we conducted at the Society for Human Resource Management conference echoes the shift we are seeing toward a great demand for retaining skilled workers and developing leaders as baby boomers prepare to retire, leaving many organizations tapped for replacements.”

HR professionals revealed that their top ten concerns are (in order of importance):

1. Retention/Turnover
2. Leadership Development/Succession Planning
3. Morale/Motivation
4. Benefit Costs
5. Compensation
6. Training
7. Executive Coaching
8. Workers Compensation
9. Skills Availability
10. Downsizing/Outplacement

Venturion conducted the same survey in 2004 which revealed similar responses. The top five concerns at that time were (in order of importance) leadership development and succession planning, employee retention, benefits costs, training and compensation.

“The fact that the responses for 2005 are similar to 2004’s results and from the increased level of work Venturion is doing in the areas of executive coaching, leadership development and succession planning, we can clearly see that companies are increasingly struggling to retain or replace quality leaders,” -Huse said. “Venturion helps companies on a daily basis to effectively transition their leadership and successfully implement succession plans that will ensure long-term viability.”
